So outside of machining time etc, is there any practical reason I could not do the same thing, except the band would have a flat base on top for a rail, or even an integral rail milled into it? What got me thinking about this was that the original military rear sight was a band around the barrel, soldered on. This is for fun, not for profit, so I am not so worried about the time or cost effectiveness of the modification. I will not put a scope on in the normal position, I am left handed so a normal scoped bolt action is very hard for me to use, as I need to reach way over the scope- that is why I like the old straight bolt Mausers- it is simple for me to work the bolt left handed. Once you have it in the mill to drill the front holes its a simple mater to run the table down to the rear bridge. I would drill and tap both the front and rear and if you ever get the cash to have the bolt altered you could then mount any production scope on it and use it as a typical sporting rifle. The bolt handle coming up to the top is not an issue this way. ![]() ![]() The simple thing to do if you want a small red dot sight is to drill and tap the front receiver ring, install a weaver base and clamp the red dot sight on it.
